How to ensure timely supply of production lines and workplaces with the correct and high-quality components in the face of increasing variability in manufactured products?
Timely supply of the right material (or components) to the production lines is a priority and a challenge for production logistics. Methods such as Kanban and Just in Time logistics management contribute to achieving efficient supply in a mass production environment. With the advent of digital technologies in the industrial environment, these traditional methods have also been taken to a higher level.
Changing customer requirements and deadlines as well as increasing product variability are accelerating the digitalization and automation of internal logistics. The automotive sector has already managed to adapt to the standard of manufacturing vehicles based on individual requirements and preferences of clients in large volumes.
Manufacturers and subcontractors must also adapt to this setting, which in practice means expanding the flexibility of their own material flows and their dynamic management. Increasing agility and introducing dynamic logistics procedures is part of a larger change related to the transition to a pull manufacturing strategy. This has already become routine in the automotive industry, thanks to the automated synchronization of logistics flows with production operations.
Flexible supply procedures based on current customer business requirements are starting to penetrate other industries outside of the automotive industry and are creating a new standard for intra-company logistics. Intelligent automation systems allow companies to autonomously coordinate internal logistics with ongoing production processes, synchronize material flows and thus respond promptly to changing customer or end-user requirements.
The topic of streamlining intra-company logistics flows was also addressed by experts during the annual meeting of the Czech Chamber of Logistics Auditors, Profesní setkání logistiků 2020, to which ANASOFT was also invited.
At the meeting, ANASOFT presented a case study of a project on intelligent logistics and supply in an industrial environment of variable production. The case study mainly addresses the following questions:
- How does Just in Time (Just in Sequence) real-time supply work in variable production
- What are the benefits of dynamic intra-company logistics management
- What technologies are used to automate the synchronization of production logistics supply
- What is the extended functionality of the WES [Warehouse Execution System] system
