Informatization in Industry – Art Better Times on the Horizon?

2015-11-12

Informatization in Industry - EMANS2015 Production Management Conference, which focuses on performance improvement and the development of corporate culture, was held on November 3 and 4, 2015. IPA, one of the leading companies in Central Europe in the field of consulting, education, design and research for the industry was the organizer, and for the fifth consecutive year, ANASOFT was a significant partner.

ANASOFT conducted a survey from its stand regarding the readiness of companies for the 4th industrial revolution. The survey results revealed room for improvement in terms of process integration and resource sharing in manufacturing, logistics, quality control and maintenance.

Industry 4.0 Ready

Industry 4.0 readyConditions for the implementation of the SMART FACTORY vision, which is part of the Industry 4.0 initiative can be achieved by creating an environment for linking the virtual and physical worlds, by linking interactive devices (touch panels, optical sensors, cameras...), manufacturing equipment and information systems.

According to the results of the survey, only 11% of the companies use a manufacturing operation management system (MES/MOM) while 33% of the respondents confirmed the use of a quality management system (QMS). Almost 21% of the companies represented in the survey use software for maintenance management.

The survey also dealt with the monitoring of the current status and use of manufacturing equipment. Such evaluation can reveal weaknesses in the manufacturing process and even forecast future problems; it allows for better planning and the introduction of changes in production which will result in increased performance and reduced costs. Up to 44% of the companies confirmed that they monitor the current status of production electronically, by reporting it in the IT system, while automatic data collection from manufacturing equipment is used by almost 28% of companies.

Companies – survey respondents monitor the current status of stock and materials in manufacturing in a different way, either by monitoring material only when it is released from the warehouse and then only at the final control of the product (33%) or by monitoring throughout entire manufacturing process, at every stage of the manufacturing process (61%).

The Time for Better Quality Management Is Now

The Time for Better Quality Management Is NowOnly 15% of respondents stated that they monitor the quality of products by the visual inspection of randomly selected pieces. However, up to 56% of the companies conduct ongoing controls throughout the manufacturing process in order to catch incompatible products as soon as possible.

In terms of quality evaluation, 61% of the companies monitor and evaluate the percentage of rejects from the total number of products and up to 78% of companies record the type of damage and use this information for analyzing the causes of the rejects. However, less than 10% of the respondents use a predictive evaluation system which helps to improve the quality of manufacturing.

Inspirations – Contacts - Trends

The concept of this year’s Production Management also reflected on the strategic orientation of manufacturing companies, optimizing processes related to development, the technological preparation of manufacturing, the introduction of new projects and the motivation and involvement of people and problem-solving in the workshop.

ANASOFT presented the third generation of its EMANS MOM system, this time as a practical example in a simulated manufacturing company where the conference participants could try their hand at picking parts from supermarkets and various assembling workplaces, the pairing of components, final assembly and final inspection.

A comprehensive overview of the state of production could also be monitored on one of the screens (human-machine-interface) of the system with remote access to allow the company manager to comfortably monitor the processing of individual orders from any location with an internet connection. Visitors to the ANASOFT stand could also observe a unique method of contactless production confirmation by using a Microsoft Kinect camera.
